Thompson Named CACC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

New Haven, Conn. (4/12/10) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia baseball pitcher Gary Thompson has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 11, 2010.

In his only appearance this week, Thompson (Timber Creek High School/Sicklerville, N.J.) threw a complete game shutout and led the Devils to their first victory of the season, 1-0 over Caldwell College on Saturday.

 The senior lefthander threw 119 pitches in recording his first complete game of the season. Thompson allowed just two hits in the game, both singles while striking out eight batters and walking just one.

Thompson currently leads the Devils with a 4.12 earned run average, allowing 11 earned runs in 24 innings pitched. He leads the team with 19 strikeouts in his four starts and has a 1-2 record. The opposition is batting just .229 against him while lefthanders are batting just .167.

A four year starter for the Devils, the former Timber Creek High School athlete is a Health Sciences major at the University of the Sciences. Thompson ranks fourth on the Devils all-time strikeout list with 137.
