McMahon Named CACC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

University of the Sciences sophomore pitcher Dan McMahon was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance during the week ending April 17, 2011.

In McMahon's (Millville High School/Millville, N.J.)  only appearance of the week, he threw a one-hit complete game shutout as the Devils defeated Nyack College 1-0 on Saturday.

The sophomore right-hander was perfect through 4 1/3 innings before issuing a one-out walk, which was erased on a double play.   McMahon continued to flirt with the no-hitter through the seventh inning, before giving up a single to open the bottom half of the eighth inning.  The Nyack base runner was again erased on a double play and McMahon retired the final four batters to complete the one-hit shutout.  He threw just 105 pitches in the game.

The win improved McMahon's record to 5-2 overall.  It was his fourth complete game of the season and lowered his league-leading earned run average to 0.86.   Dan faced just one batter above the minimum while walking two and striking out six. Opposing batters are hitting just .160 against him this season.

The former Millville High School athlete is in his second season of play for the Devils.
