Baseball Selected Sixth in CACC Preseason Coaches Poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) released the first of the 2018 Preseason Coaches Polls for the spring season on Thursday, with its unveiling of the 2018 CACC Baseball Preseason Caches Poll.

Coming off a season in which it won its most overall and league games since 2013, the University of the Sciences baseball team was selected to finish sixth in the CACC South. 

The Devils finished 2017 at 13-27 overall and 6-16 in the CACC, their best record since going 14-22 and 6-14 in 2013. 

USciences has increased its conference win total in each of the previous four seasons, and its overall win total in each of the last three.

University of the Sciences returns four starting pitchers from its 2017 squad, including CACC Rookie of the Year Kris Morgenweck. The Devils also bring back six starters amongst position players, as well as four relief specialists.

Wilmington edged out Felician for the top spot in the South, receiving seven of a possible 12 first-place votes en route to 67 points. Felician garnered the remaining five for a total of 65 points.

Chestnut Hill, Jefferson and Goldey-Beacom were in third, fourth and fifth ahead of University of the Sciences.

Dominican was voted the preseason favorite in the CACC North, earning nine of the 12 top-votes for a total of 69 points. Second-place Post received two of the remaining three and totaled 60 points.

Bloomfield and Nyack tied for third, with Concordia and Caldwell – who earned the last first-place vote – rounding out the poll.

The University of the Sciences baseball team opens its 2018 season in just over two weeks on Saturday, Feb. 17 against Le Moyne in Holly Springs, N.C.

USciences' first home game of the campaign comes the following Saturday, Feb. 24, when the Devils host Saint Anselm in a doubleheader at Father Judge High School beginning at 12 p.m.

University of the Sciences' first game at Richie Ashburn Field is on Tuesday, March 13 when it hosts East Stroudsburg, while its CACC opener is that weekend on Saturday, March 17 at Bloomfield.
