Golf Team Earns First Win of Season

A sunny 80-degree day provided the backdrop as the University of the Sciences mixed golf team won their first match of the season on Tuesday, defeating Philadelphia University 326-348 at Rock Manor Golf Club in Wilmington, Delaware.

The Devils are now 1-2 on the season.
A trio of USciences golfers recorded the low scores of the match as senior Jason Franck and freshmen Ian Byerly and Joseph D'Uva shot 81 for the par-71 course.  The three golfers finished one stroke ahead of Philadelphia's Ryan O'Donnell's and Tim Gobrecht's scores of 82.

Two strokes back with a score of 83 was the Devils fourth and final scorer, sophomore Joseph Mauro.    Stan Chun (85) and Torey Howarth (99) rounded out the Rams four scorers.

Juniors Patrick Cliggett and Ryan DeLorraine also turned in solid performances on the afternoon, with Cliggett shooting 87 and DeLorraine 88.   Senior Anuj Patel (92) and sophomore Matthew Garin (96) rounded out the Devils competitors at the match.

The Devils return to action on Monday, October 4, 2010 when they will compete in the Swarthmore College Fall Tournament at Rock Manor Golf Club, starting at 1:00 p.m.
