Golf Team Finishes Tenth at CACC Championship

The University of the Sciences mixed golf team concluded their second and final round of play at this year’s Central Atlantic collegiate Conference Championship at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill on Tuesday, finishing in tenth place out of the eleven schools competing.

The Devils finished with a team score of 700 for the two round tourney, five strokes behind ninth place Holy Family university (695) and 12 behind eighth place Philadelphia University (688).   Wilmington University won the title with a score of 601, dethroning five-time champion Post University  who shot 608.

A pair of freshman were the top two finishers for the Devils.  Joseph D’Uva and Ian Byerly shot identical scores of 87 on Monday’s first round and finished the tournemtn on Tuesday by shooting identical scores of 86 to give each of them a two round total of 173.  Byerly and D’Uva’s scores placed them in a tie for 33rd place overall amongst the 54 competitors. 

Joseph Mauro was the Devils third finisher, shooting a 93 in the first round and following it with an 86 on Tuesday to finish in 39th place with a score of 179.  The Devils last two golfers competing both shot scores of 180 to finish in a tie for 40th.  Pat Cliggett shot 90 in the first round and again the second for his score of 180 while Jason Franck shot an 88 in the first round and followed it with a 92 in the second round to produce his score of 180.

The Devils will compete in a match on Saturday at the ACE Club in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania against Philadelphia University.
