Golf Team Opens Season with Tri-Match loss

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia mixed golf team opened their 2010-11 season on Saturday at the ACE Club in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania, taking on Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference rivals Philadelphia University and Goldey-Beacom College in an afternoon tri-match.

The Devils lost to both schools, as Goldey-Beacom finished the match with a score of 311 and the host Rams shooting 344.  Sciences shot 354 and fell to 0-2 with the two losses.

The Lightning turned in the four lowest scores of the match, with Mike Coppa earning medalist honors with a round of 73.   Tim Gobrecht was the Rams top golfer with a score of 82.

A pair of freshman, Joseph D'Uva and Ian Byerly turned in the two best scores for the Devils.  D'Uva shot 86 and finished tied for 8th place amongst the 14 finishers.  Ian Byerly was one stroke behind D'Uva in 10th place with a score of 87.

Senior Jason Franck and junior Patrick Cliggett rounded out the Devils four scorers in the match.  Franck shot 89 to finish in 11th place while Cliggett shot 92 to place 13thAnuj Patel was 14th with a score of 96.

USciences returns to action on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 when the host Philadelphia University at Rock Manor Golf club in Wilmington, Delaware.  Tee time is 1:00 p.m.
