Kerr and Traub Repeat as Usciences Athletes of the Week
Men’s and Women’s Basketball players Garret Kerr and Brianne Traub have been named the University of the Sciences Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week ending December 19, 2011.
The USciences Athlete of the Week Award is given to one male and one female USciences student-athlete who perform with distinction for their respective sports during that week.
This marks the third time that Kerr and Traub have earned the USciences Athlete of the Week Award. Both players earned the honor in the opening week of the season (ending 11/13) and again last week (ending 12/11).
Kerr (Middle Township High School/Moorestown, N.J.) moved into the starting lineup for the Devils and immediately made an impact, recording back-to-back double-doubles in the Devils only two games. His efforts earned him CACC Player of the Week honors, the first freshman in the conference to the honor since the 2008-09 season. Kerr recorded 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the Devils loss to Philadelphia University on Saturday. He followed that up with a 20-point, 15-rebound, six assist effort on Monday at East Stroudsburg. For the week he shot 73% from the field (19-26). Garret now has recorded a double-double in three straight games and has four on the season.
Traub (Eastern Christian High School/Wayne, N.J.) earned her second consecutive CACC Rookie of the Week honor as she led the Devils to two straight wins. Traub recorded her fourth and fifth 20+ point games of the season last week, netting 23 in the Devils overtime win against Philadelphia University and 21 in a blowout win at East Stroudsburg. Brianne also added 10 rebounds against Philadelphia University for her third double-double of the season. She shot 51.9% for the week from the field and 73.7% from the free throw line. Traub is currently the CACC’s leading scorer, averaging 19.3 per game (25th best in the nation).
