Adefemi Named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Area All-Academic Team

PHILADELPHIA University of the Sciences senior Adewale Adefemi has been named to the 2011 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's Basketball Team. Adefemi is one of five student-athletes selected to this year's Academic All-Area Men's Basketball Team. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

A pharmaceutical marketing and management major, Adefemi (Winslow Township High School/Chesilhurst, N.J recently completed his fourth and final season of play for the Devils.  Adewale has earned Dean's List honors six times in his eight semesters at the University of the Sciences.  Earlier this year Adefemi became the first men's basketball player in program history to earn a spot on a CoSIDA Academic All-District Team when he was named to the Capitol One District 2 All-Academic Men's Basketball Second Team.  He was also named the South Jersey Small College Men's Basketball Player of the Year by the Carino Club of South Jersey.

The senior forward, led the Devils this season in scoring (16.3 points/game), rebounding (242, 10.1/game), field goal percentage (48.0%), and blocked shots (16). Adewale was also third on the team in assists (43, 1.8/gm.) and steals (33).

Adewale's 10.1 rebounds per game average ranked him third in the CACC and 15th nationally amongst all Division II players. Adefemi also ranked eighth in the league in scoring, second in the league in offensive rebounds (4.5/game) and fifth in defensive rebounds (5.58/game).

A fourth-year player for the Devils, Adewale started every game for the Devils in 2010-2011 averaging 35.5 minutes per game. He set a single season record for offensive rebounds with 112 this year and is the Devils all-time leader with 356 offensive boards in his career.  His 862 career rebounds rank him fourth on the Devils all-time list.  Adefemi has amassed 1,429 career in 103 games played for USciences, ranking 12th all-time.

Adefemi is joined on the team by senior Sharif Brey of the Cheyney University (Performer of the Year), senior Steve Weingarten of La Salle, junior Juan Fernandez of Temple, and sophomore Mouphtaou Yarou of Villanova.

Student-athletes from the University of the Sciences have been named to the Philadelphia Area All-Academic Teams a total of 61 times since the programs inception in 2005-06. Fifteen student-athletes have been named to an area all academic team twice and nine have earned the honor three times. Seven USciences student-athletes who have earned Performer of the Year honors in their respective sports, with two of those garnering the award twice (Michelle Bauer- women's at-large (rifle) - 2006, 2008; and Amanda Bedway- women's tennis - 2007 and 2008).
