Mann-Barnes Named CACC Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
New Haven, Conn. (12/06/10) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia men's basketball player Tyrone Mann-Barnes (Collingswood High School, Woodlynne, N.J.) was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his performance for the week ending December 5, 2010.
In the Devils two games last week, Mann-Barnes averaged 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists as USciences recorded a perfect 2-0 week. Tyrone shot 64.7% (11-17) from the field, 66.7% (6-9) from three point range and 60% (6-10) from the free throw line.
Mann-Barnes opened the week in dramatic fashion, hitting an NBA three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Devils a 56-54 win over East Stroudsburg University (the PSAC East pre-season favorite). In that game, the former Collingswood High School athlete set a school and CACC record by shooting a perfect 6-for-6 from beyond the three-point arc. He finished the game with 22 points on 8-9 shooting. Mann-Barnes also pulled down four rebounds in the game.
Mann-Barnes followed that game with a 12-point, five rebound, five assist performance in the Devils 89-76 win over Kutztown on Saturday. He was one of six players to reach double figures for USciences in the game and his five assists led the team.
In five games this season, Mann-Barnes is averaging 10.6 points per game and leads the team with ten three-point field goals.
The former Collingswood High School athlete is in his first of play for the Devils. A former First Team All-South Jersey star, Mann-Barnes is majoring in pharmaceutical business at the University of the Sciences.
