Adefemi Named Sam Cozen Small College Basketball Player of the Week

Philadelphia, Pa. (December 7, 2010) - University of the Sciences men's basketball player Adewale Adefemi (Winslow Township High School/Chesilhurst, N.J.) was one of three men's basketball players honored as the Sam Cozen Small College Players of the Week by the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association at their luncheon Tuesday at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

Now in its 24th season, the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association honors area small college basketball players at their bi-weekly luncheons, not only for the performance on the court, but for their leadership and their academic success, ideals emphasized by the late Sam Cozen, longtime coach at Drexel University and for whom the award is named.

Adefemi has started all five games for the Devils this season and leads the team with averaging 12.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game.  ‘Wale has recorded double-doubles in three of the five games he has played.  Adefemi made a pair of clutch free throws with 7.6 seconds left to break a 49-49 tie and help propel the Devils to a 51-49 victory over Bloomsburg University as well as a key put-back in the Devils 45-42 win over West Chester.

The senior forward has been named to the CACC honor roll twice this season in consecutive weeks (11/29 and 12/6), posting averages of 13.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game over the three games during the two-week period, leading the Devils to a 4-1 record, their best start since the 2003-04 season.

The former Winslow Township High School athlete is in his fourth season as a member of the USP men’s basketball team. In 83 career games for the Devils, Adewale has scored 1,082 points and pulled down 661 rebounds, 265 of them off the offensive glass. His 265 offensive rebounds rank second on the Devils all-time list and his 661 total rebounds ranks 12th.

Adefemi is a Pharmaceutical Marketing/Management major at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and has a grade point average of 3.48.
