Kerr Named CACC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

University of the Sciences basketball player Garret Kerr was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his performance during the week ending December 19, 2011.

Kerr (Middle Township High School/Moorestown, N.J.) is the first freshman men’s basketball player in the conference to earn Player of the Week honors since the 2008-09 season.  He also becomes just the third USciences men’s basketball player to be named CACC Player of the Week since the 2004-2005 season, joining Adewale Adefemi (1/24/11) and Chris Brattelli (12/6/04).

The freshman forward moved into the starting lineup for the Devils last week and immediately made an impact, recording back-to-back double-doubles in the Devils only two games.  Kerr recorded 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the Devils loss to Philadelphia University on Saturday.  This was the first time a Devils men’s basketball player scored 30 or more points in a game since the 2003-2004 (Jeff Miller, 35 vs. Teikyo Post  3/5/04) season and the first freshman player at the school to do so since 2001 (Gene Willard, 30 vs. Teikyo Post 12/1/01).  He followed that up with a 20-point, 15-rebound, six-assist effort on Monday at East Stroudsburg.

For the week, Kerr averaged 25 points; 15 rebounds and three assists per game. He also shot 73% from the field (19-26).  Garret now has recorded a double-double in three straight games and has four on the season.

The former Middle Township High School Athlete is in his first season of play for the Devils.  A 1000+-point scorer in high school, Kerr was a First Team All-South Jersey honoree as a senior, leading Middle Township to the South Jersey Group II Championship.  Garret is a physical therapy major at the University of the Sciences.
