Kerr Named CACC Men's Basketball Player of the Year

University of the Sciences men's basketball player Garret Kerr has been named the 2012-13 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Year in voting done by the league's 14 coaches and announced by the conference office today.   Kerr was also named to the All-Conference Team as a First Team honoree.

Kerr (Middle Township HS/Moorestown, N.J.) dominated play throughout the 2012-13 season, earning CACC Player of the Week honors a record-tying six times over its course, including three straight from February, 11-25, 2013.  He was the only CACC player to earn the honor more than once.   Kerr is also the first player in conference history to earn CACC Rookie of the Year as a freshman and Player of the Year Award the next season and the first CACC men's basketball player to ever earn both awards during their career.

The sophomore forward leads the CACC in both scoring (21.5 points/game) and rebounding (12.6 rebounds/game).   These two marks are also tops in the NCAA division II East Region and the latter being the best in the nation.   Kerr also leads the nation in double-doubles with 18.  His scoring and rebound averages increase when considering only conference games played (22.1 points/gm. and 13.6 rebs./gm.).

Garret has reached double figures in scoring in 24 of the Devils 25 games, including the last 20 and has recorded six games of 30+ points during the season, including a career-high 34 against Bloomfield College on February 16, 2013.  He has double-doubles in 13 of the Devils 17 CACC games this season, with eight games of 15 or more rebounds, including a 21-rebound game against Chestnut Hill on February 12, 2013 and a career-high 22-rebound effort against the same Chestnut Hill squad 11 days later on February 23, 2013.   His 22 rebounds against the Griffins equals the highest total in a single game by any NCAA Division II player this season.

Kerr also leads the Devils in field goal percentage (52.0%), free throw percentage (79.6%) and steals (1.4 per game). At the conclusion of the regular season, he also ranks second on the team in assists (2.6 per game). In 50 career games, Kerr has amassed 934 points and 640 rebounds (averages of 18.7 and 12.8 respectively).  Garret also has a total of 39 double-doubles for his career.

The former Middle Township High School Athlete is in his second season of play for the Devils.  A 1000+-point scorer in high school, Kerr was a First Team All-South Jersey honoree as a senior, leading Middle Township to the South Jersey Group II Championship.  Garret is a physical therapy major at the University of the Sciences.
