Kazakevich, Vargas Named to CACC All-Conference Team
University of the Sciences men's tennis players David Kazakevich and Alvaro Vargas were named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference All-Conference Team in voting done by the league's seven coaches and announced by the conference today.
Kazakevich (Council Rock North high School/Richboro, Pa.) was named as a second team selection while Vargas earned honorable mention status.
In becoming the Devils first freshman to earn All-CACC honors, Kazakevich produced a 10-4 overall record during the season. His ten wins are the highest total on this year's squad. David's record includes a perfect 4-0 mark at the #1 singles position. He also recorded a 6-3 mark while playing at #2 singles.
Vargas recorded an overall mark of 8-5 while playing primarily at the #1 singles position. Alvaro was 4-4 art #1 singles and 4-0 at #2 singles.
Kazakevich and Vargas also made up the Devils top doubles team, earning a #5 region ranking for doubles team by the ITA during the season. The duo produced a 10-4 overall mark which included reaching the ITA East Regional Championship doubles quarterfinal round last fall. The two were 9-3 in dual matches this year.
The Devils recorded a 9-7 mark over the course of the season and earned a #7 region ranking from the ITA and a #8 ranking from the NCAA. Sciences lost 5-2 in the CACC semi-finals to Philadelphia University and must now wait to see if they will receive an at-large berth to the NCAA East Region Championships.
