Devils Rally to Defeat Griffins

The University of the Sciences Men's Tennis Team captured four of their six singles matches as they rallied to defeat host Chestnut Hill College 5-4 in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon at the CHC Tennis Courts in Philadelphia. 

Sciences is now 1-0 while Chestnut Hill falls to 2-2. 

Trailing 2-1 after the doubles matches, Sciences captured the top three singles matches along with the #6 singles slot to complete a come-from-behind win.    

Junior Alvaro Vargas won his first singles match as a Devil in dramatic fashion, as he and Mario Gutierrez split their first two sets, Vargas winning the first one  6-4 and Gutierrez the second 6-3, sending the match into a 10-point tiebreaker.  Vargas prevailed 11-9 to win the #1 singles match. 

Freshman David Kazekevich won his #2 singles match, defeating Juan Farah 6-1, 6-2 and senior Francisco Garcia defeated Villafuerte Joson 6-3, 6-4.  The Devils final singles win came at the #6 slot as Joshua Garcia defeated Jeramy Solema  6-3, 6-4. 

In doubles competition, Vargas and Kazekevich teamed up to earn the Devils only doubles win, defeating Gutierrez and Joson 8-3 at the #1 doubles position. 

The Devils will travel to West Chester University to take on the Golden Rams in their next match, scheduled for October 4, 2010.
