Devils Defeat Dowling
The University of the Sciences men's tennis team got back on the winning track, taking two of the three doubles contests and five of the six singles contests as they cruised to a 7-2 win over Dowling College Saturday at the McNeil field courts in Philadelphia.
The Devils improve to 7-4 overall with the win.
Paul Bedway and Roger Van Scyoc recorded an 8-2 win at #3 doubles over Dylan Zagal and Kevin Lotito to start the scoring for the Devils. Alvaro Vargas and David Kazakevich followed with an 8-4 win over Eduardo Ribeiro and Sardorjan Mamajodnov at #1 doubles. Dowling picked up its first point with a 9-8 (7-5) win at #2 doubles as Victor Kin and Michael Sinclair defeated Francisco Garcia and Bill Fine.
Sciences then took the next three singles contests to clinch the match with Josh Garcia defeating Lotito 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 at #6 singles and Vargas defeating Kin 6-3, 6-4 at #1 singles. Van Scyoc won the clincher with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) win over Sinclair at the #5 slot.
The Golden Lions picked up their final point at #3 singles as Mamajodnov defeated Francisco Garcia 8-0. Fine was an 8-0 winner over Justin Skidmore in the #4 slot and Kazakevich defeated Ribeiro 8-4 at #2 singles to complete the match.
The Devils return to action on Sunday, April 10, 2011 when they travel to Millersville University to take on the Marauders.
