Fords Hand Devils their Third Loss in Four Matches
Haverford College received solid play from the top half of their lineup as they handed the University of the Sciences men's tennis team their third loss in their last four matches, 5-3 at Haverford College's Bramall courts in Haverford, Pennsylvania on Wednesday.
The Devils dropped to 6-4 with the loss. The Fords, ranked #15 in the Division III Atlantic region, improve to 7-5.
The Fords captured two of the three doubles contests to take an early lead in the match. Sciences lone doubles win came at the #2 slot as Francisco Garcia and Bill Fine defeated Hailiu Yang and Devin Van Dyke, 9-7.
Garcia also won his singles match, defeating Andy Dougherty 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2) at the #3 slot. Roger Van Scyoc was the Devils other singles winner, recording a 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 win over Ankur Arya at #5 singles.
Haverford's top two singles players, Kevin Caulfield and Yang recorded wins over the Devils top two singles players, Alvaro Vargas and David Kazakevich. Vargas lost at #1 singles to Caulfield, 6-0, 6-3 while Kazakevich fell to Yang 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 1-0 (7-2). Vargas and Kazakevich also lost at #1 doubles, 8-4.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, April 9, 2011 when they host Dowling College in a regional match at the McNeil Field Courts. Starting time is scheduled for noon.
