Men’s Tennis Maintains #7 Ranking in Region
The University of the Sciences men’s tennis team was ranked seventh in East Region in the latest Campbells/ITA Tennis rankings that was released on March 30, 2011.
This week’s ranking marks the second consecutive spring ranking for the Devils as they maintained the number seven slot from the March 9th ranking. USciences was also ranked seventh in the ITA Pre-Season region poll released back in November of last year.
The Devils have a 5-1 record entering this week’s contest which include matches against Concordia College (#1 in the region and #3 nationally) and Philadelphia University ($4 in the region).
Individual singles and doubles team rankings also were released for the first time this spring. The Devils doubles team of Alvaro Vargas (Manizlaes, Columbia) and David Kazakevich (Richboro, Pa.) are ranked fifth in the region, behind three doubles teams from Concordia College, the top ranked team in the region and the top team from Queens College (N.Y.) (#2 in region). Entering this weeks contests, Vargas and Kazekevich are undefeated in dual match play (5-0) and 6-1 overall with their only loss coming in the ITA Regional Tournament quarterfinals last September to Andrey Boldarev and Daniele Piludu (the top ranked doubles team in the region).
Vargas is also ranked #11 in the region in singles. The junior from Manizales, Columbia had a 5-1 overall singles record entering this week’s contests with his only loss coming in the ITA Regional Tournament last September.
