Kazakevich Wins Bronze Medal at Maccabi Australia International Games

University of the Sciences freshman men's tennis playerDavid Kazakevich recently competed as a member of the United States Open Tennis Team at the Maccabi Australia International Games in Sydney Australia from December 26, 2010 through January 2, 2011, coming away with a bronze medal in the men's doubles competition. 

Kazakevich (Council Rock North HS/Richboro, Pa.) competed in both the open singles and men's doubles competition.  In men's doubles he partnered with Jason Sinkoff to advance to the semi-finals, before losing to Fisher and Steve Loeffler of Australia 6-1, 6-0, to take home the bronze medal. 

In singles, he defeated Michael Shapiro of Australia, 7-5, 0-6, 6-1 in his opening match and teammate Seth White, 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals before falling to Chad Awerbach, 6-0, 6-4 in his semi final match.  In the bronze plate (consolation) match, Loeffler took the bronze with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kazakevich who settled for fourth place. 

No stranger to international competition, Kazakevich also represented the USA at the 18th World Maccabiah Games in Israel in July 2009 as a member of the juniors tennis team. 

David has already started to make his mark on the Devils tennis program.  In Sciences' four fall dual matches, he went undefeated, recording perfect 4-0 marks in both singles and doubles.  In doubles Kazakevich teamed up with Alvaro Vargas to earn a #5 ranking amongst NCAA Division II doubles players in the East region. 

Prior to attending University of the Sciences, David was a member of Council Rock North High School's boys tennis team that went to the state championship in each of the last two years.  As a junior in 2009, Kazakevich took finished in third place in the states PIAA  AAA Singles championship and led his team to a runner up finish in the team championship.  Council rock north's boy's tennis team advanced to the quarter-final round of the 2010 PIAA AAA Team Championship with Kazakevich also advancing to the quarterfinal round of the singles championship. 

A physical therapy major pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) degree at the University of the Sciences, Kazakevich is in his first season of play for the Devils.
