Devils Drop Match to Queens at NCAA Tournament

The University of the Sciences men's tennis team dropped their opening round match in the NCAA East Regional tournament Monday afternoon, losing to Queens College (N.Y.) 5-0.  The tournament was hosted by Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts.

The Knights took all three doubles points to open up the afternoon, including: an 8-2 victory at the No. 1 flight by Atilla Toth and Nikolaj Wulff  over  Francisco Garcia and Alvaro VargasBill Fine and Josh Garcia lost at #2 doubles, 8-1 to Fabio Minami and Andre Pellegrino and Queens recorded an 8-love win at No. 3 doubles with Diego Medrano and David Burstein defeating Roger Van Scyoc and Paul Bedway to complete the doubles sweep.

Toth and Medrano closed out the win for the Knights in singles competition with Toth defeating Vargas at #1 singles and Medrano defeating Fine at #3 singles, both by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores.  In the remaining matches that were in progress, all four Devils players were one set down and trailing in the second set when Queens scored their fifth point, ending the match.

The Devils finish the season with a 9-8 record.  Queen's advances to take on #3 seed Bentley College on Tuesday with the win.
