Devils Earn At-Large Berth to NCAA Tournament
The University of the Sciences is returning to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship Tournament for the second time in three years as the NCAA announced the field for the 48-team tournament Tuesday night.
USciences earned the #7 seed in the East region bracket and will face Queen's College (N.Y.) in the opening round on Monday at 1:00 p.m. The bracket will be hosted by Bentley University. The Falcons received the #3 seed and will meet sixth-seeded Southern New Hampshire at 10:00 a.m. . The two winners will square off at 12 noon Tuesday with the survivor advancing to the championships, which will be held May 11-14 in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
The other half of the East Region will be hosted by Merrimack College, with fourth-seeded Philadelphia University taking on the Warriors and the winner of that match advancing to play top-seeded Concordia College (N.Y.).
Coaching the Devils, in his 21st season is Dr. Julian Snow. In his 21 years as head men's tennis coach, Julian has a 145-102 career record and is the Devils all-time winningest men's tennis coach.
The Devils have recorded a 9-7 record on the season and advanced to the CACC Semi-Finals losing to CACC runner-up Philadelphia University. The team is led by freshman David Kazakevich and junior Alvaro Vargas. Vargas played at #1 singles for most of the season compiling an 8-5 overall record and was an honorable mention all-conference selection. Kazakevich, a second team All-CACC honoree, compiled a 10-4 overall record in his first season of play for the Devils. The two players also make up the Devils top doubles team, compiling a 10-4 record on the season and a #5 ranking by the ITA in the East Region.
