NEW HAVEN, Conn. – It was a good two days for the University of the Sciences men's tennis team as it began its spring season with a win on Sunday, and Borna Novak was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week on Monday.
It was the junior's first career weekly award from the league.
Novak played a major role in helping USciences (2-2) edge Saint Anselm, 5-4, by winning both of his matches.
Novak and partner Nathan Nguyen carried their stellar doubles rapport from the fall into the spring, winning their fourth straight match to improve to 6-1 overall – and a perfect 4-0 in dual play – with an 8-2 decision at the first flight.
Then playing in his first No. 1 singles match of the season, Novak took a close first set, 6-4, before pulling away in the second set, 6-1, for his team-best second singles victory.
Novak and the Devils continue their spring break trip today with a match against Hampden-Sydney.
