Men’s Harriers Finish Fourth at Metro Meet

Intercollegiate cross country made its return to Belmont Plateau's original classic men's college course on Saturday with the running of the Philadelphia Metro Invitational Meet.  The University of the Sciences marked the return with a fourth place finish in the meet.

The Devils scored 123 points, fourth best amongst the 26 schools competing and just 14 points behind third place Ursinus College (109).   Central Atlantic collegiate conference rivals Felician College (47 points) and Philadelphia University  (69) finished first and second respectively.

Leading the way for the Devils was junior Marty Farrell.  Farrell, the only Sciences runner to break the 30-minute mark, placed 11th overall with a time of 29:50.73.   Farrell's time is the fifth fastest ever run in the 31-year history of the Metro meet by a runner from University of the Sciences (Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science prior to 1999) on this particular course.  He was followed by junior Georgiy Polyak who placed 20th with a time of 30:53.07.  Senior Pete Grant rounded out the Devils top three with a 26th place finish and a time of 31:07.41.

The Devils top five was completed by a pair of sophomores, Mike Pecorino and Robert Glass.   Pecorino finished 30th overall with a time of 31:27.90 and glass was 40th, crossing the line in 32:03.98.

Juniors Tuynh Nguyen and Francisco Garcia rounded out the Devils top seven finishers.  Nguyen was 44th overall with a time of 32:13.70 while Garcia was 51st overall with a time of 32:53.80.

The Devils return to action on Friday, October 2, 2010 when they will race at the Paul Short Invitational against 40 other schools, including some Division I programs.
