Devils Open Season with a Fifth Place Finish at DVC Invitational

The University of the Sciences men’s cross country team kicked off their 2011 campaign with a fifth place finish at Saturday’s Delaware Valley College Invitational in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. 

The Devils finished with 159 points to secure their fifth place finish.  Philadelphia University won the meet with a score of 39 points, followed by Richard Stockton College (56), Ursinus College (66) and Wilmington University (79).  Eighteen schools competed in the race. 

Senior Georgiy Polyak led the way for the Devils, finishing in 15th place overall (out of 136 finishers) with a time of 28:42.13, slightly faster than his time at last year’s DVC race. Senior Tuynh Nguyen followed Polyak, placing 26th with a time of 29:37.83.

USciences next three runners all finished within 30 seconds of each other with junior Christian Radzinski finishing with a time of 30:37.48 to place 42nd, followed by senior Marty Farrell in 43rd place with a time of 30:38.85.  Junior Rob Glass rounded out the top five with a time of 31:05.38 while placing 47th overall. 

The fourth senior on this year’s squad, Francisco Garcia was the sixth Devils runner to finish, placing 69th with a time of 32:35.46.  USciences four newcomers rounded out the Devils finishers, led by Chiedozie Chukwuneke placing 76th with a time of 33:14.78.   Christopher Noce (33:38); Warren Hayward (35:03) and Adam Sosnowik (35:05) joined Chukwuneke in making their collegiate debut on Saturday. 

The Devils return to action on Saturday, September 10, 2011 when they compete at the Wilmington University Invitational at Carousel Park in Wilmington, Delaware.
