Devils Finish Seventh at Metro Meet
Missing two of their top five runners and having two others just returning from injuries, the University of the Sciences men's cross country team fought their way to a seventh place finish at the Philadelphia Metro Cross Country Meet at Belmont Plateau in Philadelphia.
The Devils scored 202 points, 15 behind sixth place Nyack College. Felician College won the meet with five runners in the top ten to score 25 points. Philadelphia University was second with 46.
The race was held on a new version of the five mile course due to damage sustained to the classic course from the recent hurricane and heavy rainstorms over the past two weeks. Thus, the Devils top finisher, Georgiy Polyak, also set a school course record in the process finishing in 19th place overall with a time of 30:19.31
Marty Farrell was the next USciences runner to finish, placing 31st overall with a time of 31:43.73. Christian Radzinski followed in 41st place with a time of 32:21.35. A trio of freshman were the next three Devils to finish, led by Chiedozie Chukwuneke's time of 34:08.90 (62nd place). Christopher Noce was 64th overall with a time of 34:17.17 and Adam Sosnowik, a red-shirt freshman was 65th with a time of 34:18.88- a personal best.
Francisco Garcia rounded out the Devils seven scorers with a 66th place finish and a time of 34:16.37.
The men's cross country team returns to action on Friday, October 1, 2011 when they travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania to participate in the prestigious Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh University.
