Men’s Cross Country Opens Season with Second Place Finish at Wilmington Invitational

WILMINGTON, Del. – Six Devils finished in the top-20 to lift a young University of the Sciences men's cross country team to a second place finish at the season-opening Wilmington University Invitational on Saturday morning at Carousel Park.

The Devils were 13 points clear of third place Felician with a total of 54.

The host Wilmington comfortably won the event with 19 points.

Crossing back-to-back in ninth and 10th to pace USciences in the field of 37 were sophomores Johnathan Epstein and William Hallinan, who finished in respective times of 30:49.94 and 30:53.94.

For Hallinan, it was a new collegiate personal record by over a minute.

Freshman Dylan Zuch collected a top-15 finish in his first collegiate race by completing the 8k in 31:30.73 to place 13th.  

Also placing in the top-15 was sophomore Ryan Ward, who crossed 14th after navigating the course in 32:04.29.

Freshman Isaac Hoskins and sophomore Christopher Cardace both picked up to-20 finishes, crossing back-to-back in 19th and 20th in 33:18.94 and 33:42.44.

Sophomore Matthew Connolly and junior Scott Jacobs clocked respective times of 34:55.24 and 36:28.26, while freshman Macniel Mandeh finished his first collegiate race in 44:44.86.

University of the Sciences is right back in action next Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Philadelphia Metro Cross Country Championships, hosted at Belmont Plateau. Race time is set for 1 p.m.
