Hirsh Named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men’s At-Large Team

Philadelphia (May 19, 2010) – University of Sciences in Philadelphia senior Glen Hirsh has been named to the 2009-10 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's At-Large Team. Hirsh is one of 10 student-athletes selected to this year's Academic All-Area Men's At-Large Team. The sports information offices of the 28 area institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area vote for the team.

Hirsh (Cherokee High School/Marlton, N.J.) is a fourth-year microbiology major at the University of the Sciences. Glen currently has a 3.390 overall grade point average. Hirsh recently completed his fourth season of competition for the Devils. He finished the season with a smallbore average of 530.09 and an air rifle average of 527.22 while competing in every event this season for the Devils. Hirsh recorded career high scores in both guns against Indiana university of Pennsylvania on November 14, shooting 545 in smallbore and 543 in air rifle.

The Marlton, New Jersey native's selection to the Area All-Academic Team is his first such honor and caps off a trio of post-season academic honors for the senior shooter. Last month Hirsh was named to College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) and Mid-Atlantic rifle Conference (MAC) All-Academic Teams for the 2009-2010 season, repeating his honors from the 2008-09 campaign. Glen has earned Dean's list honors six times and was an NCAS Academic Momentum Award honoree in 2009.

Hirsh is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Men's At-Large team by Temple University gymnasts Patrick McLaughlin (Performer of the Year), Blake Collins and Chris Mooney; Haverford College squash player Zef Konst; Neumann ice hockey player Mat Valois; University of Pennsylvania fencers Andrew Bielan and Vidur Kapur; Penn wrestler Gabriel Burak and Drexel wrestler Alex Rinaldi.

Student-athletes from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia have been named to the Philadelphia Area All-Academic Teams a total of 52 times since the programs inception in 2005-06. Thirteen student-athletes have been named to an area all academic team twice and seven have earned the honor three times. Five USP student-athletes have also earned Performer of the Year honors in their respective sports, with two garnering the award twice (Michelle Bauer- women's at-large (rifle) - 2006, 2008; and Amanda Bedway- women's tennis - 2007 and 2008).
