Fowler Named to MAC All-Rookie Team

University of the Sciences mixed rifle team shooter Sam Fowler has been named to the Mid Atlantic rifle Conference (MAC) 2010-11 All-Rookie team in announcement made by the conference office.

Fowler (Orchard Park HS/Orchard, Park, N.Y.) becomes the third shooter from the University of the Sciences to be named the conference All-Rookie Team in the past two years.  The MAC selected an All-Rookie team for the first time in 2008-09.    The team is chosen based on the top ten conference averages, irrespective of discipline, for those competitors utilizing their first year of collegiate rifle eligibility, with either the higher of smallbore or air rifle average chosen if both averages rank amongst the conference’s top ten overall. 

In 11 smallbore contest this season, Fowler compiled a 545.18 average with a career high of 556 at the Devils NCAA qualifier match at army on February 13.    In air rifle, Fowler had a 550.70 average in ten contests with a career high match of 557 against Hofstra University on October 2, 2010.

Joining Fowler on the MAC all-Rookie Team are Andrew Besch and Chelsey Frink of Akron; Daniella Andrade and Victoria Notaro of Coast Guard; Eric Routsch of IUP; Kerry Hansen of John Jay College; Rebecca Gould of MIT; Marie Mallet of VMI Women and Alex Zadrozny of Wentworth Institute of Technology.

The MAC is the largest rifle conference in the nation and currently consists of 15 members in eight states from Virginia to Massachusetts and west to Ohio. The MAC strives, through the practice of riflery, to promote the highest ethical standards of athletic competition and individual conduct, foster the development of mutual understanding and cooperation among its member institutions, and work to develop complete mutual understanding of the sport among all member institutions.
