Summers Earns Second CACC Softball Rookie of the Week Honors

New Haven, Conn. (5/3/10) – University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's softball outfielder Erin Summers has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending May 2, 2010.

Summers (Pitman High School/Pitman, N.J.) had hits in all four of the Devils games this week as she extended her hitting streak to a team high nine games. This is the second time Summers has earned CACC rookie of the Week honors, the first coming after her four home run week back on April 12, 2010.

The freshman outfielder batted .500 for the week with seven hits in 14 at-bats. Five of her 14 hits came against first place Dominican College in the Devils final doubleheader of the regular season. Summers had three hits in the Devils critical 9-6 come-from-behind-victory over the Chargers on Saturday, including a single which triggered the Devils four-run rally in the fifth when trailing 6-3. Erin scored the first run of that rally and scored the Devils eighth run one inning later She ended her solid day of offense with two more hits in the nightcap to finish the day with five hits in eight at-bats against the Dominican pitching.

Earlier in the week, Summers recorded a hit in each of the Devils two games at nationally ranked Kutztown University.

For the week, Summers produced a slugging percentage of .643 and an on-base percentage of .500. She recorded her fourth stolen base of the season on Saturday against Dominican. In the field Erin handled eight chances without a single error and had an outfield assist in game one against Kutztown.

The former Pitman High School softball star currently leads the Devils (14-26) with a .402 batting average, four home runs and 15 RBI in 37games played. Summers is second on the team with 26 hits and four doubles and third on the team with 17 runs scored. Erin is a pharmacy major in the institution's Doctor of Pharmacy program.
