Summers Named to CACC All-Conference Softball Team
New Haven, Conn. (May, 3, 2011)– University of the Sciences sophomore Erin Summers was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Conference Women's Softball Team as a Second Team selections as announced today by the conference office. The All-CACC team selections are done by the league's 14 coaches.
This year's selection marks the second consecutive year that Summers has earned All-CACC honors having also been a second team honoree in 2010.
The USciences softball team finished the regular season with a 10-30 record and an 8-18 record in conference games to finish in 11th place amongst the 14 teams. The top eight teams qualify for the CACC Championship Tournament.
Summers (Pitman High School/Pitman, N.J.) played in started in all 40 games for USciences this year, leading the Devils in batting average (.328), home runs (3) and RBI (21). In addition the sophomore outfielder/catcher scored a team high 18 runs and also led the team in stolen bases with six. Summers led the Devils with 14 multiple-hit games and had a team-best six game hitting streak over the final week of the season. Earlier this season Summers set a school record for RBI in a game, driving in seven against Chestnut Hill while hitting two home runs. The two home runs tied her own single game school record.
In her two seasons in a Devils uniform, Erin has a .356 batting average with 85 hits in 239 at-bats. Her 85 hits rank 14th on the Devils all-time list. Summers also has hit seven career home runs (third on USciences' all-time list) and has 36 RBI (19th all-time) while playing in a total of 80 games.
Summers is a pharmacy major in her second academic year in the institution's Doctor of Pharmacy program.
