NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The University of the Sciences softball team was picked 12th in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Preseason Coaches Poll that was revealed on Friday.
Caldwell was a near-unanimous selection as preseason favorite, receiving 11 of the 14 first-place votes for a total of 193 points.
Second place Wilmington and third place Dominican garnered the remaining three to total 176 and 169 points, respectively.
There was a 41-point gap between Dominican and fourth-place Jefferson, while Holy Family rounded out the top five.
Post, Felician, Goldey-Beacom, Chestnut Hill and Bloomfield rounded out the top 10, with Georgian Court slotting one spot ahead of USciences in 11th.
Concordia and Nyack rounded out the poll.
University of the Sciences went 5-33 in 2017, including 4-22 in the CACC. The Devils return their top three pitchers from a season ago, as well as 9 of their top 11 leaders in batting average.
USciences opens its 2018 season against Salem International on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 9 a.m. in Murfreesboro, N.C. as part of the Hawks Classic. That will be the first of four games that weekend.
The Devils then make their way down to Clermont, Fla. for spring break, where they will play eight games in six days in the PFX Athletic Games from March 3-8.
University of the Sciences opens its home and CACC schedule with a doubleheader against Dominican on Saturday, March 17 at 12 p.m.
