Shaw Named to a Third All-American Team
University of the Sciences senior women’s basketball player Caitlin Shaw was named to her third All-American Team today when the Division II Women’s Basketball Bulletin announced their All-American Teams for the 2010-11 season.
Shaw (Monmouth Regional High School/Eatontown, N.J.) earned third team honors on this year’s D-II Women’s Basketball Bulletin All-American Team, making her the first women’s basketball player in school history and in the history of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference to receive All-America status on three separate teams in one season. Last week Caitlin was named to the Daktronics All-American Team as a third team selection and was also an honorable mention selection to the WBCA’s All-American Team,
Shaw has led the Devils to a 21-6 overall record and a second place finish in the CACC Southern Division with a 16-3 conference mark. The Devils 21-6 mark represents a nine-win turnaround from the 2009-10 season when USciences finished 12-15.
The senior forward had one of the best seasons in the 24-year history of the women’s basketball program at the University of the Sciences in 2010-11. Shaw led the CACC in scoring, averaging 19.6 points per game. Her scoring average is the third highest average ever in program history behind former two-time All-American Kim Koschineg’s 22.7 and 23.1 points per game marks in 1997-98 and 1998-99. At the conclusion of the season she was voted the CACC Player of the Year by the conference coaches and was a First Team All-Conference selection. Caitlin was later named to the WBCA All-East Region Team and then the Daktronics All-East Region First Team and was runner-up for Region Player of the Year honors in the Daktronics balloting.
Caitlin ranked eighth in the nation in scoring average and scored in double figures in every game this season, registering 11 double-doubles and pouring in a career-high 34 points in November against Bloomsburg. She also finished fourth in the conference in rebounding (9.6), third in field-goal percentage (.540) and 14th in free-throw percentage (.762).
During the season, Shaw earned CACC Player of the Week honors three-times and was named to the conference honor roll eight times. Caitlin set a school record by making 16 free throws against Chestnut Hill College on February 1st. Shaw also produced the third best single game shooting performance in Devils history, an 11-12 effort (91.7%) at Philadelphia University on February 15th, making her first ten shots and scoring 25 points in the Devils win over the Lady Rams.
Shaw recorded her 1,000th career point against Wilmington on January 13th and finished her career in ninth place on the Devils all-time scoring list with 1,229 points. She also ranks tenth on USciences' all-time rebound list with 585. In 98 career games, Caitlin recorded the fourth best shooting percentage in school history (49.9%) and also ranks fourth all-time with 359 free throws made. Her 12.6 points per game career average is the fifth best scoring average in school history.
The former Monmouth Regional High School athlete is in her fourth and final season of competition for the Devils. Caitlin is a physical therapy major in her first professional year and fourth overall in the institution's Doctor of Physical Therapy degree program. She is on target to graduate in May 2013.
