Navy Records Win Over Women's Rifle Team

Sophomore Olivia Brown had her best match of the season but the University of the Sciences women's rifle team lost to Navy, 4621-3563 in Annapolis, Maryland on Saturday. 

The Midshipmen outshot the Devils in smallbore 2294-1665 and in air rifle 2327-1898 to also pick up Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) wins for each gun.  Sciences record drops to 1-5 overall, 1-3 in MAC Smallbore competition and 1-3 in MAC air rifle contests. 

Brown turned in a career high match in smallbore, shooting 501 (97, 89 prone; 78, 71 stand; 81, 85 kneel) and a season high 484 (76, 74, 84, 85, 81, 84) in air rifle.  Shaina Kulp had a season-high shooting smallbore with a score of 433 (90, 89 prone; 57, 66 stand; 56, 75 kneel) and shot 472 (75, 90, 84, 77, 79, 67) in air rifle.

 Carrie Kwok was the Devils top air rifle shooter with a season-high score of 501 (84, 82, 80, 81, 83, 91).  Kwok also shot 376 in smallbore (75, 71 prone; 52, 55 stand; 57, 66 kneel).  Shakira Chavis rounded out the devils scorers, shooting 441 (71, 78, 77, 72, 70, 73) in air rifle and 355 (77, 81 prone; 60, 58 stand; 41, 38 kneel). 

Chris Burleson led Navy and was the top shooter in both guns, shooting identical 588 scores in smallbore and air rifle.   Ryan Williams and Alison Lankes had identical 571 smallbore scores for the Midshipmen and Stephen Frazier rounded out Navy's four smallbore scorers, shooting 564.  Williams (581), Schmidt (580) and Lankes (578) joined Burleson as Navy's four air rifle scorers. 

The Devils return home for their next match at Saturday, October 23, 2010 hosting Princeton University and their two U.S. Olympic shooters Sandra and Abigail Fong.  The match is set to start at 10:00 a.m. at the Colonel William Shea Rifle Range.
