Devils Close out Season with Win over Cougars

The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia women's tennis team closed out the fall portion of their dual match season with a 5-1 win over Caldwell College Sunday afternoon at the McNeil Field Courts in Philadelphia.

The win gives the Devils a fall record of 4-7 overall and 4-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Caldwell drops to 1-9 overall and 1-7 in league play. USP's four conference wins is one more than they won during the 2008-09 season.

The Devils swept two doubles matches to take an early 2-0 lead. Freshmen Sara Durham (Sacred Heart HS/Bridgeton, N.J.) and Nicole D'Ascenzo (Cardinal O'Hara HS/Morton, Pa.) defeated Olga Ndhlovu and Danielle Levasseur 8-4 at the number one slot while seniors Danielle Perfetti (Cardinal O'Hara HS/Clifton Heights, Pa.) and Jeanine DePasquale (Hammonton HS/Waterford, N.J.) defeated Sunmarie Allen and Kiera Tims, 8-3 at the number two slot. For both D'Ascenzo and DePasquale it was their first collegiate victory in either singles or doubles. DePasquale joined the team as a junior last season.

DePasquale went on to win her singles match, defeating Tims, 8-4 at #4 singles. Durham was an 8-4 winner of Ndhlovu at #1 singles, improving her record to 7-7 on the season. Perfetti rounded out the Devils winners in singles, defeating Levasseur 8-2 at the number two slot. Caldwell's lone point came at the number three position with Allen recording an 8-1 win over D'Ascenzo.

The Devils will send one singles player and one doubles team to the upcoming CACC individual championship on Friday, October 16, 2009. Matches begin at 9:00 a.m. at Chestnut Hill College.
