The University of the Sciences Women's Tennis Team closed out the fall portion of their 2010-11 campaign on Friday, losing to second-place Goldey-Beacom College 9-0 at USciences' Bergman Courts in Philadelphia.
The Devils finish the fall with a 2-6 overall and conference record and a seventh place finish in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference standings.
Opening the match with doubles competition, Goldey-Beacom lost all of six games in the three doubles contests, sweeping the trio of matches. Sciences' number two doubles team of Laney Jones and Desiree Vassalotti won four of those games in an 8-4 loss to Blanca Sancho and Gabriela Chaves. Sara Durham and Bridget Frymoyer lost at #1 doubles 8-2 to Marie-Louise Klein and Marina Sales. Juliet Choi and Michelle Adamczyk dropped their #3 doubles match to Vanessa Leon and Laure Cure Peters, 8-0.
The match was then decided in the first set of singles competitions as Frymoyer (#2 singles), Choi (#4) and Adamczyk (#6) all lost in straight sets clinching the match win for the Lightning. Durham (#1 singles), Jones (#3) and Vassalotti (#5) followed with pro-set losses with Durham's being the closest match of the afternoon, an 8-6 defeat at the hands of Sancho.
The women's tennis team will return to competition with a pair of non-conference matches on March 23 and 24, 2010 against West Chester University and Chestnut Hill College respectively.
