Rams Defeat Devils
Desiree Vassalotti recorded the only win on the court yesterday as the University of the Sciences women's tennis team dropped their home opener to Philadelphia University 6-3 at the Bergman Courts at McNeil Field.
The loss drops the Devils overall and Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference record to 1-2. The Rams improve
to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.
The Devils picked up two quick points before the match began
as an injury-plagued Rams squad could field only five players,
giving the Devils default wins at #3 doubles and #6 singles.
Being short-handed however, did not affect the play of the Rams as
they won six of the seven remaining actual matches to gain the
overall win, 6-3.
Sciences lone point won on the courts came at the #5 singles
position. Vassalotti (Sacred Heart HS/Vineland,
N.J.) improved her season mark to 3-0 with an 8-1 win
over Kaitlin MacQueen.
The Devils return to action over the weekend, participating in the ITA Regional Championships at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center in Philadelphia on Saturday and Sunday, September 18-19, 2010.
