FLUSHING, N.Y. – Second-seeded Karla Miletic advanced into the Round of 16 in the singles draw, and paired with partner Abbygail Gamarnik to move on to the Quarterfinals of the doubles draw to highlight the University of the Sciences tennis program's second day at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regionals on Saturday.
Notably, Nathan Nguyen and Borna Novak also advanced in the men's doubles draw, prevailing over a pair from Queens 9-7 in their Round of 32 match before dropping their Round of 16 matchup to second-seeded University of the District of Columbia.
Miletic is the only Devil still alive in singles play after her 7-5, 6-4 victory in her Round of 32 matchup with an opponent from Adelphi. She will face the 16 seed from Concordia in the Round of 16.
15th-seeded Miletic and Gamarnik picked up a pair of hard-fought 8-6 decisions over teams from University of the District of Columbia and ninth-seeded Adelphi to advance to the Quarterfinals. The wins moved the two up the record book for career doubles victories, as Gamarnik is now tied for fifth in program history with 21 for her career, and Miletic is right behind her in seventh with 20 for her career. The duo will have to pass a tough test in a second-seeded pair from NYIT if they want to move on to the Semifinals.
Also competing on the day in singles play was Elkanah Linder, who picked up two qualifying victories on Friday to enter the main draw in the Round of 64, where the junior fell to an opponent from Southern New Hampshire 6-3, 6-2.
Linder also competed in doubles action, as she and teammate Danielle Paran fell to a duo from Concordia 8-1 in the Round of 32.
The ITA Northeast Regionals continue on Sunday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
