FLUSHING, N.Y. – Karla Miletic saw her run in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regionals come to a heartbreaking end in the Quarterfinals on Sunday as the sophomore dropped a three-set thriller at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Earlier in the day, it was Miletic on the other side of a thrilling three-setter as she rallied to advance to the Quarterfinals with a dramatic victory over the 16 seed from Concordia. After dropping the first set 4-6, she came back to win the second set 6-2. She carried that momentum into the third set tiebreaker, where she prevailed by a score of 10-6.
In her Quarterfinal matchup with an opponent from Goldey-Beacom, it was Miletic dropping the first set once again, 5-7, only to come back and win the second 6-3. This third set tiebreaker turned out to be even closer, with her opponent pulling out a 10-7 triumph to advance to the Semifinals.
Miletic and doubles partner Abbygail Gamarnik also reached the Quarterfinals with two 8-6 victories yesterday. Facing off against the second-seeded team today, Miletic and Gamarnik were the first pair to win a game against the duo from NYIT but would fall short by a score of 8-1.
University of the Sciences returns to Central Atlantic Collegaite Conference (CACC) play this Wednesday, Sept. 27, when it hosts Holy Family for a 2:30 p.m. match at the McNeil Family Courts.
