Women’s Tennis Completes Near-Sweep of Chestnut Hill

PHILADELPHIA – The University of the Sciences women's tennis team came a three-set loss away from sweeping Chestnut Hill in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match at the McNeil Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.

Karla Miletic, Abbygail Gamarnik, Elkanah Linder and Jillyan Serrano all won two matches on the afternoon.

Linder and Danielle Paran won their fifth consecutive match doubles match together with an 8-4 decision at the second flight to improve to a team-best 8-2 on the season.

With the result, Linder moved into second in program history with 31 career doubles victories.

Miletic joined Linder and her partner, Gamarnik, in the top-five for career doubles wins as the pair were ahead 5-4 in their first flight match before winning by default to give the sophomore the 23rd victory of her career.

The result also gave Miletic and Gamarnik their eighth win of the season to match Linder and Paran.

Notably, Miletic and Linder are now each one victory shy of becoming the third and fourth Devils, respectively, to win 30 career singles matches after sweeping their respective first and third flight opponents.

Miletic is also now a perfect 5-0 in CACC singles play.

Meanwhile, Gamarnik defeated her No. 4 singles opponent in straight sets to move into a tie for seventh in program history with her 21st career win.

Also winning their singles matches were Serrano and Gabrielle Soriano, who dropped a combined one game at the fifth and sixth flight.

With the results, Serrano moved over .500 to 3-2 overall, while Soriano improved to a perfect 3-0 on the season.

Earlier in the afternoon, Serrano joined partner Han Le for an 8-2 decision at No. 3 doubles to improve to a perfect 2-0 in CACC play together.

With Monday's scheduled match at District of Columbia postponed until the spring due to expected inclement weather, University of the Sciences (4-4, 3-3 CACC) will continue its postseason push with a critical CACC match at Post on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m.
