Paran Wins Twice; Linder Ties Program Mark on First Day of Women’s Tennis’ 2018-19 Season

EWING, N.J. – Danielle Paran won both of her matches, Elkanah Linder tied Victoria Quang's program record for most career singles victories, and freshman Stephanie Mazurek picked up a win on her first day of collegiate action to highlight the University of the Sciences women's tennis team opening its 2018-19 season at The College of New Jersey's (TCNJ) Lions Singles Tournament on Saturday.

It took Paran two super tiebreakers after first set losses to end the day unbeaten, as the sophomore had to fight back from losing both first sets in a tiebreaker. After winning both of her second sets she would prevail in her two super tiebreakers by identical 10-7 scores, defeating opponents from TCNJ and New York University (NYU).

Linder, already the program's all-time doubles wins leader, bounced back from an opening loss to defeat her foe from NYU 6-4, 6-2 for her 36th career victory.

She will have an opportunity to become the program's all-time singles wins leader on Monday, when USciences plays its first-ever home match at the Hamlin Center against Concordia at 5:30 p.m.

Mazurek also had to bounce back from an opening loss, which came after winning the first set against her opponent from TCNJ. After dropping the super tiebreaker 4-10 in that match, she responded by sweeping her foe from NYU 7-6 (3), 6-2.

Abbygail Gamarnik came closest to making it four Devils to earn a victory on the day, as she fell 7-5, 7-6 (3) in her second match.

University of the Sciences returns to Ewing tomorrow for TCNJ's Lions Doubles Tournament, which begins at 9:30 a.m.
