NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After opening the season with a 4-1 record over the weekend at The College of New Jersey's Singles and Doubles Tournaments, University of the Sciences women's tennis sophomore Danielle Paran has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the first time in her career.
She began the year with singles play on Saturday, winning two super tiebreakers after first set tiebreaker losses to end the day unbeaten. After winning both of her second sets she would prevail in her two super tiebreakers by identical 10-7 scores, defeating opponents from TCNJ and New York University.
Paran then paired with freshman Stephanie Mazurek for the first time ever on Sunday, and the two were 8-0 and 8-4 winners over duos from Dickinson.
The two doubles victories moved the sophomore into a tie for 10th in proram history with 18 career doubles wins.
With today's scheduled 5:30 p.m. match against Concordia postponed, University of the Sciences will next compete this weekend, Sept. 14-17, at the ITA East Regionals, hosted at the Billy Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
USciences' home debut at the Hamlin Center will now be next Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 5:30 p.m, when the Devils host Goldey-Beacom in their CACC opener.
