Women’s Track and Field Opens up Inaugural Season at Collegeville Classic

COLLEGEVILLE – The University of the Sciences women's track and field program competed in the first event of its inaugural season on Saturday at the Collegeville Classic hosted by Ursinus. 

Chloe Georges had USciences' best finish of the day, as her mark of 9.85m (32-03.75) in the shot put was good for 12th place out of 43 competitors.

Sophie Hockran gave the Devils two finishers in the top-half of the field, with her longest throw traveling 9.42m (30-11.00).

Not far behind Geroges for best University of the Sciences finish was Elizabeth Sauers, who led four Devils in the mile as she placed 14th out of 37 runners with a time of 5:57.13.

Bridget Houghton (6:38.58), Paige Jacobs (6:49.59) and Jamie Ryan (7.56.00) also got their first taste of NCAA track and field action in the event. 

Four Devils also ran in the 200m preliminaries, highlighted by Simran Sangu nearly finishing in the top-third of the field of 73 by crossing 25th in 29.15.

The former volleyball standout also narrowly missed out on joining Jordyn Pursel in the top-half of the field of 61 in the in the 60m as her time of 8.84 was good for 31st place.

Pursel ran the 60m in 8.67 to place 24th, highlighting a busy day in which she was one of two Devils to compete in three events. She placed 40th in the 200m with a time of 8.67 and finished the 400m in 1:13.08.

Stephany Romero also competed in three events, marking 4.00m (13-01.50) in the long jump as the only Devil to compete in jumps on the day. The freshman recorded respective times of 8.96 and 30.99 in the 60m and 200m.

Elizabeth Eaton also ran in the 60m and 200m, crossing in respective times of 9.39 and 32.76.

Shane Bishop finished .33 seconds behind Pursel in the 400m and was also one of two Devils to run in the 800m, crossing in 2:53.09. Joining her was Houghton, who finished in 3:03.48. 

University of the Sciences takes two weekends off before competing in the second of three winter events this season on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Albright Invite.
