New Haven, Conn. (September 20, 2010) – University of the Sciences freshman volleyball player Lauren Mobley (Oxford Area HS/Oxford, Pa.) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 19, 2010.
Mobley averaged 2.44 kills and 3.06 digs per set in four matches last week, posting a pair of double-doubles against CACC foes Philadelphia University and Wilmington University. The Devils compiled a 1-3 record on the week. Mobley becomes the first Devils volleyball player to earn CACC Rookie of the Week honors since teammate Christine Puschak was honored twice during the 2007 season.
Against the Lady Rams in the Devils CACC opener, Mobley recorded 15 kills and 13 digs as the Devils lost a nail-biter in five sets, 3-2. Lauren hit .178 for the match and also recorded a service ace and a block.
Less than 24 hours later, the freshman outside hitter notched her second career double-double, a 12 kill, 22-dig effort against Wilmington. Mobley hit .194 for the match, won by the Wildcats 3-1. Later that afternoon, she recorded her best attack % of the season (.263) with just two errors in 19 chances while getting seven kills as the Devils defeated Assumption 3-0.
Mobley opened the week with five kills, two aces and seven digs in a 3-1 loss to Millersville.
For the week, Mobley recorded 39 kills in 122 attempts, hitting .148. Lauren also finished the week with 49 digs, five blocks, four aces and four assists. She currently leads the Devils in service aces with 19 in five matches this season.
The former Oxford area High School volleyball player is in her first season of play for the Devils. Mobley is a Pharmacy major at the University of the Sciences, pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
