Tigers Defeat Devils in Straight Sets
Second Place Holy Family University took early control of their Central Atlantic Collegiate conference women's volleyball match against the University of the Sciences as they cruised to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-19) sweep over the southern division rival Wednesday night at the Bobby Morgan Arena.
The Devils, playing without two of their starters due to injury and illness, dropped to 8-14 overall and 6-12 in league play. The Tigers improve to 18-9 overall and 15-3 in league games.
Cady Rich led the Devils with eight kills and five blocks while Diana Solomon added seven kills as the two attackers accounted for nearly 70% of the teams total kills (22). Solomon also had four aces on the night. Sarah Hickman led the team with 15 assists. Defensively, Sheryse Taylor had eight digs while Solomon and Coral holly had five apiece. Christine Puschak and Hickman also added two blocks apiece.
The Tigers were led by Jillian Keeve's 13 kills. Cara Przybylowicz added eight kills. Aimee Drabyn led Holy Family with 27 assists. Jordan Beland had 11 digs to lead all players while Przybylowicz chipped in eight.
Holy Family finished the match with a 17-kill advantage over the Devils (39-22) and outhit Sciences .215 (39-19-93) to .047(22-18-85). The Devils recored three more aces (7-4) but committed a total of ten service errors to the Tigers four. The Tigers had 38 digs while the Devils posted only 28.
Sciences will conclude their season on Saturday, November 6, 2010 when they host Post University at the Bobby Morgan Arena at 1:00 p.m.
