Solomon Named CACC Volleyball Rookie of the Week

New Haven, Conn. (September 27, 2010) – University of the Sciences freshman volleyball player Diana Solomon (East Islip High School/East Islip, N.Y.)was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 26, 2010.

Solomon averaged 2.30 kills and 2.70 digs per set in three matches last week, helping the Devils to a 2-1 record on the week.  Solomon is the second consecutive Devils volleyball player to earn CACC Rookie of the Week honors this season with teammate Lauren Mobley getting the honor last week. 

The freshman left side hitter opened the week on Tuesday with eight kills and ten digs in the Devils 3-0 win over Goldey-Beacom College.  Solomon also recorded four assists and had two aces and a block against the Lightning. 

Against defending CACC champion Georgian Court University, Solomon had a career-high ten kills while recording two blocks as the Devils fell to the Lions 3-1. 

Solomon closed out the week with a career-high six blocks against Nyack College.  Diana also had ten digs, marking the third time in four matches that she has recorded ten or more digs. 

For the week, Solomon had 23 kills, hit .149 (23 kills, 74 attempts, 12 errors), had nine blocks (one solo) and 27 digs in ten sets played.  Diana also had only one service error in 36 serving attempts (three aces) on the week, for a 97.2% serving average. 

The former East Islip High School volleyball player is in her first season of play for the Devils. Solomon is a Pharmacy major at the University of the Sciences, pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
