DeAngelo Earns CACC Rookie of the Week Honors

University of the Sciences freshman Amanda DeAngelo has been named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week for her performance during the week ending October 2, 2011.  This is the second time this season DeAngelo has earned this honor.

DeAngelo (Vestal High School/Vestal, N.Y.) led USciences to their first two wins of the season, setting a pair of school records in the process.  The freshman outside hitter opened the week with 26 kills vs. Chestnut Hill, breaking the school’s single match record (current scoring format) set back in 2009 by Christine Puschak in the process.   Her 66 attack attempts were also a school record.  DeAngelo also recorded a career high 25 digs.

Not to be outdone, DeAngelo broke both of her own records in the Devils next contest, a 3-2 win over Nyack on Saturday.   Amanda punished the Nyack netters with 29 kills in 72 attack attempts.  In addition she had 20 digs, her second consecutive “20-20” game.

For the week, DeAngelo averaged 5.5 kills/set, 4.5 digs per set and hit .275

DeAngelo becomes just the third player to record 20 or more kills in back to back matches, joining former four-time all conference players Breht Mieckowski and Emily Roth.  Roth holds the school record with five consecutive matches with 20 or more kills.  Amanda is also the first women’s volleyball player in school history to record consecutive games with 20 or more kills and digs in the same match.

The former Vestal High School athlete is in her first season of play for the Devils. DeAngelo was a Southern Tier Athletic Conference All-conference selection and a fourth team Class AA All-State honoree in 2011
