Lions Roar Past Devils

The University of the Sciences women's volleyball team had a season low 14 kills as Georgian Court University recorded a straight set, 3-0 victory Thursday night at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia

The Lions won 25-23, 25-20 and 25-15 to improve to 7-16 overall and 6-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play.  The Devils fell to 3-15 overall and 3-9 in league contests.

Amanda DeAngelo (Vestal, N.Y.) and Rachel Martin (Troy N.Y.) accounted for eight of the Devils 14 kills in the match recording four apiece.  Kaileen Bevenour (Sicklerville, N.J.) and Diana Solomon (East Islip, N.Y.) had six assists apiece.   Solomon also recorded three aces while Martin added two.   Coral Holly (Charlestown, R.I.) was the only Devils player in double figures for digs with 10.  Solomon added two solo blocks.  As a team the Devils had a negative attack percentage with 20 errors to go along with their 14 kills in 80 attack attempts (-.075).  It was only the third time this season that the Devils had a negative attack but tonight's percentage was the lowest of the three.

The Lions in contrast had 39 kills  and an attack percentage of .153 (39-24-98).  Georgian Court also committed 14 service errors, which combined with their attack errors accounted for 62% of the Devils point total in the match.  Tatiana Villariny had 14 kills, equalling the Devils output as a team to lead the Lions.  Maria Antimaisiaris and Francheska Cedres added three aces apiece.  Cedres also led all players with 13 digs.

The Devils return to action on Saturday, October 15, 2011 when they travel north to take on Concordia College in a CACC crossover match.
