Volleyball Team Drops Pair of Non-Conference Matches

The University of the Sciences women's volleyball team hosted its first ever quad match on Saturday as Bentley University and Pace University came in to face off against the Devils and fellow CACC school Wilmington University.  USciences however came up short in their matches against their Northeast-10 opponents, losing to Bentley 3-1 and Pace 3-0. 

The two losses drop the Devils record to 0-6 overall. 

Opening the day with Bentley, the Devils lost the first set, 25-17 but rebounded to take the second by the same 25-17 score.   Bentley then closed out the match, winning the next two sets 25-16 and 25-21.  The Falcons improved to 2-3 overall with the win. 

A pair of freshman combined to record 25 of the devils 32 kills in the match.  Amanda DeAngelo had 14 kills and a .370 hitting percentage (14-4-27) while Rachel Martin added 11 kills and a .207 (11-5-29) hitting percentage.  DeAngelo also added 10 digs for her first career double-double.  Stacey Wooden led USciences with 11 digs.  Kaileen Bevenour had 14 assists while Diana Solomon added 11. 

Kelsey Buckner led the Falcons with 14 kills while Lauren Colasanti had 20 digs and four service aces.   Savannah Dominguez added 10 kills and five blocks.  Alex Tator had 36 assists. 

Pace was the Devils second and final opponent of the day.  The Setters handed the Devils their sixth straight loss 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-18) to improve their record to 2-4. 

DeAngelo again led the Devils with eight kills while Wooden added seven.  Both players had identical .167 hitting percentages.  Solomon led USciences with 10 assists while DeAngelo paced the Devils defense with eight digs.

Tamilee Webb and Nora Rugova had 14 and 13 kills respectively for the Setters.  Elyse Rowland had 15 digs. 

The Devils return to action on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 when they travel to Georgian Court University to face the Lions in a CACC Divisional match.  Trip off is 7:00 p.m.
