Lyons, Kearns are solid in Devils Debut at Delaware Valley
Jordan Lyons ran her fastest 6,000-meter race ever in her Devils debut and freshman Abby Kearns placed ten seconds behind her as the University of the Sciences women's cross country team opened their 2010 season with an eighth place finish at the DVC invitational in Doylestown, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Sciences finished with 216 points, 24 behind seventh place
Misericordia College. Elizabethtown college, ranked
4th in the D-II Mid-East region, won the race with 48
points, placing three runners in the top five overall. The
Devils were the top team amongst the three Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference schools competing in the meet.
Lyons (Washington Township HS/Sewell,
N.J.), who last year competed for Chestnut Hill
College, was the first Devils runner to finish, crossing the
line in 36th place overall with a personal-best time of
26:07.01. sophomore Kristin
Waters (West Genesee
HS/Syracuse, N.Y.), an All-CACC performer last year,
finished just .39 behind Lyons with a time of 26:07.40. Lyons
time was over a minute faster then her previous best 6K race, set
last year on the same course. Waters was less than four
seconds off her best 6K time of 26:03, set at last year's NCAA East
Regional.
Kearns (Holy Cross HS/Scranton, Pa.)
made an impressive Devils debut, finishing two places behind
Waters with a time of 26:17.40. JuniorsJessica
Kaminski (Charter School of
Wilmington/Hockessin, Del.) and Kimberly
Brown (Toms River East HS/Toms
River, N.J.) rounded out the Devils top five
scorers. Kaminski was 73rd overall with a time of
28:13.89 while Brown was 77th overall with a time of
28:18.89.
Emily
Schwartz (Cherokee HS/Marlton,
N.J.), the third runner to make her Devils debut and
senior Allison
Dargay (Cardinal O'Hara HS/Glen
Mills, Pa.) rounded out Sciences seven scorers.
Schwartz finished with a time of 29:09.42 while Dargay crossed the
finish line in 29:25.02.
The Devils return to action on Saturday, September 11, 2010
when they compete at the Wilmington University Invitational at
Carousel Park in Wilmington, Delaware.
