University of the Sciences women's cross country runner Abby Kearns was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate conference women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 5, 2010.
In her collegiate debut, Kearns (Holy Cross High School/Scranton, Pa.), finished in 39th place overall amongst the 195 runners competing at the Delaware Valley College Invitational on Saturday. Abby completed the 6,000-meter course in 26:17.40 and was the third finisher for the Devils, who ended the day with an eighth place finish amongst the 23 schools competing. Her time was just ten seconds behind the Devils top two finishers and was the fastest 6K debut by a University of the Sciences freshman since the 2004 season.
A PIAA state championship meet qualifier for Holy Cross High School in 2008 and 2009, Kearns is currently majoring a physical therapy at the University of the Sciences and is in her first season of competition for the Devils.
