Devils Race to Second Place at Wilmington Invite

The Devils placed four runners in the top 15 finishers as the University of the Sciences women's cross country team raced to a second place finish at Saturday's Wilmington University Invitational at Carousel Park in Wilmington, Delaware.

Sciences finished with 60 points, 22 ahead of the host Wildcats.   Philadelphia University, placed five runners in the top seven to win the race with 23 points.  The Devils were also second amongst the five Central Atlantic Collegiate conference schools competing.

Freshman Abby Kearns led the way for the Devils, completing the 5,000-meter race in 21:48.94 to finish in eighth place overall.  Sophomores Jordan Lyons and Kristin Waters finished ninth and 11th overall with times of 21:54.81 and 22:23.85 respectively.   Kearns' and Lyons' times were personal bests.

Junior Kimberly Brown and senior Allison Dargay rounded out the Devils top five .  Brown placed 15th overall with a time of 23:38.39 while Dargay was 17th overall with a time of 24:08.75.  Junior Jessica Kaminski and senior Colleen Christian rounded out the Devils top seven scorers as both runners broke the 25-minute mark.  Kaminski was 18th overall with a time of 24:10.59 while Christian recorded her fasted 5K time since the latter part of the 2007 season, placing 27th overall with a time of 24:46.28

Junior Emily Christiansen was the third Sciences runner to record a personal best time, finishing 37th overall with a time of 27:11.97.

After a bye week next weekend, the Devils return to action on Saturday, September 25, 2010 when they compete at the Philadelphia Metro Championships at Belmont Plateau.
